Aurelia

2026. Oil and beeswax on linen. 200 × 160 cm

Aurelia (2026), Oil and beeswax on linen, 200 × 160 cm

A field of late-afternoon ochre interrupted by a single seam of rust.

Aurelia is the largest work in the Slow Light series, painted over eleven weeks as the studio's west window moved through winter. Layers of pigment suspended in beeswax are scraped back and re-applied until the surface holds light the way plaster does — absorbing it rather than reflecting it. The seam that crosses the lower third was left from the first day of painting and never corrected.
